Most people wait seven years between noticing hearing changes and booking a test — largely because they don't know what the appointment involves. The reality is simpler and more comfortable than almost anyone expects.
It starts with a conversation
Your audiologist will ask about your hearing history, medications, noise exposure, and the situations you find difficult. Bring examples: struggling in restaurants, turning the TV up, missing phone calls. These details shape which tests we run and what we listen for.
The tests are painless
You'll sit in a quiet booth wearing headphones and press a button each time you hear a tone — that's pure-tone audiometry. Speech testing checks how clearly you understand words at different volumes, and a soft probe in the ear canal checks how your eardrum and middle ear are working. Nothing hurts, and the whole appointment takes about 45 minutes.
Your results, explained plainly
Your hearing is plotted on an audiogram — a simple chart showing the softest sounds you hear at each pitch. We walk through it together: what's normal, what's changed, and what it means for daily life. If treatment is recommended, you'll hear every option including costs. If your hearing is fine, you'll leave with a baseline for future comparison.
